Playing in the sandbox (city style)
At the park near our condo, there's a gravel walkway along the river. The neighborhood families bring their toddlers to the park with sandbox toys for the kids to play in the gravel. Including us. On a good day, there are 10 or 15 of them sneaking off with one another's shovels, buckets, dump trucks, etc.
I haven't decided whether this is is adorably resourceful or a sad commentary on raising toddlers in the city.
I don't really bother to think about it much, though.

some actual NYC sandboxes aren't much better! all sorts of garbage can be discovered as "buried treasure" when digging with your trusty shovel...
