Happy Name Day, Zoe!
As per honoree's request, for Zoe's name day I made her a homeade banana chocolate chip "doughnut" cake (aka bundt cake) with orange frosting, sprinkles, a zebra, and one orange candle.
To our utter amazement, it tasted great!

Other than a cake, what else happens on one's Name Day? Loved that cake--pretty creative.
Well, when Kostas was growing up in Greece it was a bigger deal than someone's birthday. On your name day, the family makes a lot of food and people drop by to visit throughout the day. Usually there are multiple family members with the same name and they gather in the same home to make visiting them easier.
For us in Chicago, I think of the girls' name days as an opportunity to celebrate each one of them separately (vs. their joint birthday). We do something special for that child on that day.
That said, Eleni shares her nameday with Kostas, her grandmother and several cousins.
Do we celebrate Renee's Name Day?
