First word(s)

Eleni said her first word tonight.

She pointed at a photo of a baby in one of her books and said "baby."

Well, actually she said "ba...by" -- she kind of had to think about it for a minute.

But then she said it again...and again...and again (along with accompanying pointings at baby photos). She paused in between several times to give herself a round of applause, in which Zoe was also happy to participate.

She refuses, however, to say "baby" on demand (eg will not respond to my question "Eleni, what's this?" while pointing at a photo of a baby).

My children are pretty particular about not doing things on demand.

...

It is still up in the air whether or not Zoe has said her first word. I'm still on the fence on this one. True, she points at dogs (real dogs, photos, illustrations) and says "DOdo," which is kind of like saying "dog." But it's not "dog," it's "Dodo." She also says it when pointing at a number of things, but she says it LOUDER when pointing at dogs. So it's kind of like a first word.

And yes, we're working on video footage.

FYI, I am SURE that I heard her say this when I was visiting. We were even looking right at the "baby face" book. Your daughters are brilliant ;)
