Introducing Mr. Birdy

Miraculously, within 24 hours, both Zoe and Eleni have discovered how to move around their cribs. Moving involves moving left and right or rotating on an axis (axis = butt). We haven't caught them in action yet, only seen the results. Now I know most of us take independant motion for granted, but when you've been finding a little person in the same position you left her in for several months, even the smallest alteration in location is unsettling.

I believe the impetus for this new skill development is a certain little purple birdy hanging off the top left corner of a mirror in their cribs. He looks innocuous enough, but we have reason to believe he is the cause of more than one rucous in the kids room.

Loud baby conversations are almost always accompanied by the tell-tale jingling of the birdy bell -- which, ingeniously, is the only noise I know of that cannot be heard over the baby monitor. Really. Not kidding. It's pretty spooky.

Evidence of Mr. Birdy's influence can be seen above. Note Zoe's location in the crib -- distinctly NOT where we put her to sleep. Then, below, note close-up of an overly innocent looking Zoe and a certain purple birdy.

I have the feeling that this isn't the last we've heard of Mr. Birdy...
